VON MOD

The collaboration process between our two companies explored the inversion of the idea of a vase. Typically, a vase acts as a vessel which supports the lower portion of a stem to reveal only the flower. While allowing ample sunlight for the arrangement, this exposure leaves the flowers both vulnerable to exterior elements as well as creates a consistent experience and view of the flowers from any and all angles. By internalizing and enveloping the flower, the vase forces the exhibitor to interact with the piece in a unique manner.

As a continuation of our previous explorations on dynamic transparency, the CNC’d fabrication uncovers new ways to utilize alternating layers of solid and void as a means of guiding the viewer’s eyes. By following the top and bottom ends of the fissure, the user works their way around the vase, revealing the prized flower from just the right vantage point.
