SALIDA OBSERVATORY
The Salida Observatory is an instrument for engaging the natural surroundings. The project actively questions the accepted state of excessive program (and the resulting space) while acknowledging this place as a mere stop off for exploring the adjacent Colorado back country. Focusing on integrating with the landscape, this project consists of a solid mass that is carved to frame views on the Sawatch Range, creates an opening to the sky, and brings the natural environment indoors. The program consists of four pods of differing sizes - a gear room, master suite, guest suite and living space - offers efficient, thoughtful living.
