DYNAMIC TRANSPERANCY

This piece is an exploration of solid/void and dynamic transparency, and is meant to celebrate the arrival of spring. An interior solid form is suspended within a partially transparent container, only breaking through the container in two spots to hint at its presence. It reveals its true form only when viewed from all angles, engaging the viewer to explore the piece rather than just observe it on a superficial level. The form of the solid interior is inspired by a seedling sprouting from a long winter, culminating in the blooming flower which it holds. The project consists of 141 layers of 1/8” thick laser-cut poplar and walnut, which were designed and laid out using the 3D modeling software Rhino and Grasshopper.
