This thoughtful 2,000 square foot residence sits atop the foothills above Boulder, looking at the great plains beyond. The project is conceived as a simple rectilinear bar that is slightly radiused to work with the contours of the incredibly steep site. This simple form utilizes recycled irrigation pipe from the clients’ farm as a structural stilt system to support the floating residence. Touching the ground lightly, the Fountain Tree Residence reflects the client’s ethics and values of the importance of the natural earth. The public living spaces are accentuated by a taller volume and floor to ceiling glass while the private sleeping spaces each have a specific view to the plains recalling memories of the resident’s farm land in the distance.
