Home > Walker Residence
Situated within the fringes of the plains and the foothills, the Walker residence addition to an existing saltbox farmhouse, becomes an exploration of the earth and sky. Architecturally translated to the folded roof and the stone bar, the new addition grounds itself to the site and bridges the gap(s) between traditional form and the dynamics of an ever-evolving family.
The monumental bar and it’s intersection with the existing farmhouse organizes the site into four quadrants. Creating entry and defining public to private and young to old, the bar supports the houses interior functions as well as the primary structure of the roof plain above. The custom trusses rise up to the east to allow morning sun to enter the addition while simultaneously folding down to provide an imitate living space with framed views of the front range and shelter from the harsh western sun.
